Powerful excavator another signal of LiuGong’s strong market push

THE proliferation of LiuGong machines both above and below ground in the Australian landscape has continued unabated, buoyed in recent times by a significant jump in sales, service, parts and finance support, plus the arrival of its electric machines

One of the latest sites where one of its bigger, 52-tonne excavators has been operating and making light work of the task has been a quarry in Kilmore, Victoria.

The LiuGong E series 952E excavator is powered by a 349-horsepower Cummins QSM11 engine, turbocharged with high torque for demanding tasks. It offers six working modes, including Power, Economy, Fine, Lifting, Breaker and Attachment, maximising fuel efficiency and making it easy for new operators.

High-flow hydraulic pumps (380 litres per minute) provide for faster cycle times and efficient power delivery for quick truck loading, digging and trenching.

The 952E features Intelligent Power Control (IPC), which optimises engine, hydraulic and electrical performance. The engine drops its RPM after one second of inactivity and further reduces it after three seconds to save fuel, while fan speed is adjusted based on engine and hydraulic oil temperature to improve efficiency.

It can dig to about 6.5 metres with a bucket capacity of 3.2m³ and its heavyweight stability also ensures excellent durability and efficiency.

The undercarriage is always a strong focus for excavators and the reinforced, X-shaped frame with the LiuGong 952E digger comprises high-strength tensile steel and is designed to withstand extreme conditions.

The boom, arm and upper structure is also superior, with oversized pins for extended durability, while a reinforced H-beam design improves balance and stress distribution.

Machine operator Chris Dawson has been stripping overburden, loading dump trucks and undertaking general earthworks at the Kilmore quarry and has been impressed with the power and stability of the LiuGong 952E excavator.

“The power is excellent and it has good breakout force, especially digging into hard rock. It’s performing really well compared with some other machines we’ve had,” Chris said.

“It’s got good, heavy duty track gear, which gives us more stability. With the size of the mud buckets we run on this machine, it’s very stable and that means we can load dump trucks and have quicker cycle times than most other machines.

“The travel speed in tracking is also very fast, especially for what we do on this site, and that makes us more efficient.”

He said the fuel consumption with the 952E was another positive considering its heavy work at the Kilmore quarry.

“It’s hard going at the site and we normally get about two days on a full tank of fuel and that’s excellent.”

Chris said they also had enjoyed great support for the machine from local Melbourne dealer, Construction Distribution Australia (CDA).

“They have assisted us at any time we have called and have been out to us immediately if needed.”

Adam Jones, with CDA Melbourne, said the central boom positioning on the LiuGong 952E excavator aided its great stability.

“You have more balance and power for big jobs like at the Kilmore quarry and you can use a larger variety of attachments with more stability,” Adam said.

“The reinforced undercarriage is also handy for sites like Kilmore, where there is hard rock, and it protects the travel motor from stress.”

He said the machine comes standard with a reversing camera, which was another great feature for quarries and other high-risk areas.

The LiuGong equipment range is supported in Australia by an extensive network with 80 dealers nationally, including local parts depots and product support staff.

Support levels are being further being boosted on the east coast through the opening of the CDA retail dealerships at Wetherill Park in Sydney, Truganina in Melbourne and shortly in Brisbane.

Backed by the McIntosh Group, CDA has extensive experience in sales and customer support, with dedicated parts and service teams with an exclusive focus on the LiuGong brand, promising significant benefits for the local market and strong foundations to support the brand’s continued growth across the country.

CDA service technicians and parts staff receive specialist LiuGong training on the range of products, systems and technical data to ensure expert servicing and support; pre-delivery of machines can be optimised to enable fast delivery and service; and machine allocation across the dealer network can be managed more effectively to meet demand.

CDA is also strongly positioned to support the increasing demand for LiuGong’s battery electric vehicle (BEV) range and is already assisting machine trials with major Australian companies.

Globally, priorities for energy are changing rapidly and the adoption of electric power is accelerating beyond all other sources to help reduce carbon emissions and, at the same time, deliver considerable operational savings.

Data comparing a mid-size LiuGong electric wheel loader with a diesel alternative has revealed fuel and maintenance savings of $210,000 over five years, as well as emission savings of more than 330 tonnes, which was significantly more than the emissions produced by the diesel machine.

LiuGong was one of the first equipment manufacturers to identify the potential of BEV technology.

More than 90 products have been launched, offering solutions for almost every application and segment, including mining machinery, industrial and port equipment, agricultural machinery and various other products. There are 11 product lines, including loaders, excavators, mining trucks, aerial work platforms, industrial vehicles and agricultural equipment.

Globally, there are well over 6000 LiuGong electric wheel loaders already operating in the field through Asia-Pacific, Europe, North America and Latin America, and it appears Australia could be the next big destination.
